The Faculty was established as a technical college and as an independent higher education institution in 1997. The first students were enrolled in the 1998/1999 academic year.
In 2016 it was transformed into a faculty; in 2018 it founded the University of Novo mesto together with the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty of Health Sciences, and became its member.
The Faculty has received a concession from the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for the implementation of two officially recognised study programmes, namely:
- For the professional higher education study programme Business and Management (awarded on 23 December 1998, start of implementation: 1 October 1999);
- For the professional higher education study programme Business Informatics with the study fields Computer and Information Science and Business Informatics (awarded on 27 December 2007, start of implementation: 1 October 2008).
In addition to the two above-mentioned programmes, the Faculty is also implementing the officially recognised master's study programme (second-cycle study programme) Business and Information Systems Management.
